Head Coach

Mrs. Laura Willingham has been the high school cheerleading coach at SMMHS since the school's founding in 2008 and is currently beginning her 11th year.  She has a strong cheerleading background, having cheered and captained the Soddy Daisy varsity national championship cheerleading squad from 1992-1996 as well as cheering for, and competing with, UTK from 1996-2000 while they were a Top 5 nationally ranked program.  Laura attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville on a cheerleading scholarship and graduated with a degree in Communications.  Before cheering for the VOLS, she was chosen to perform in the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.  She was on the NCA cheer staff, teaching at camps and coordinating at national competitions.  Additionally, Laura was on staff at United Cheerleading during and immediately after college and has judged competitions and try-outs around the tri-state area.

While Coach Laura feels that cheering should be a sharp and precise sport, representing the school through excellence, she also feels it can and should be, fun.  She lives on Signal Mountain with her husband and two children.
