B.S. Environmental Science

M.Ed. Secondary Education

This is my first year teaching at Signal Mountain Middle High School, and I am so happy to join this incredible network of students, parents, staff and administrators. I completed student teaching last Spring spending eight weeks at Hixson Middle School and eight weeks at Hixson High School. While there, I was able to work directly with two of the best science teachers in the county who taught me that being a teacher means more than teaching biology lessons. I learned some invaluable skills about time management, student-teacher relationships, quality lesson planning, and the ins and outs of being a new teacher. Shout out to Mr. Kevin Spann and Ms. Leann Plumlee!

I am not a Chattanooga native, but my mom actually grew up on Signal Road. So, I have been on and off this mountain visiting my greandparents my whole life. I grew up in Sevierville, TN which is a couple of hours Northeast and home to the two greatest places on earth, the Great Smoky Mountains and Dollywood! After graduating from Sevier County High School in 2002, I went to UT Knoxville to major in Biology and study forensics (I was really into the body farm). I quickly realized that Knoxville was not the place for me, and that decision led me to come to UT Chattanooga where I completed both of my degrees. I worked my way through college at several local downtown eateries, so if you have been to Foodworks, St. John's Meeting Place or The Community Pie, we have probably met! As much as I loved working in "the business", I knew that I wanted to do something that allowed me to give back to this wonderful community that we live in.

When I am not at school, I love strolling around North Chattanooga where my husband and I live, taking weekend trips to small towns, taking week-long trips to big cities, seeing live music with my two best friends, and cooking enough food for an army.
