Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!

My name is Lorri Whitney, and I am excited about joining the SMMHS staff and getting to work with you!  I live on Signal Mountain with my husband, Lucas, and our two children, Luke—who is entering 9th grade at SMMHS this year—and Lilly—who will be an SMMHS 6th grader.

For the past 2 years I have been providing Gifted Services at Nolan Elementary and East Ridge High School.  Before that assignment I spent a year covering several Hamilton County schools as an itinerant Gifted Services Provider.  Prior to moving to Signal Mountain, I taught American Literature and 8th grade English in LaGrange, GA. I am a late-comer to the field of education:  after graduating from Presbyterian College, I did about ten years of software support and training at Blackbaud, Inc. as well as administrative work in the cell phone industry before I returned to LaGrange College to get a Master of Arts in Teaching.  I love working with teenagers and helping them to figure out who they are and where they are going, and I feel very blessed to be able to do this at SMMHS!

As the case manager of each high school gifted student, my goal is to get to know each individual and help facilitate his or her personal and educational growth and development while also encouraging self-advocacy.  I am accessible and eager to work with each and every one of you. Please don’t hesitate to call, e-mail, or text me at any time.
