8th Grade Promotion

Promotion Practice Monday, May 20, 2024

On Monday, the students will come to school as usual and report to 1st  block by 7:45 a.m. We will start promotion practice shortly thereafter. Students will be released by their teachers to the cafeteria to start practice. Students are required to attend practice to be able to participate in promotion on Tuesday. Student attire for promotion practice must comply with SMMHS dress code

Following Promotion Practice, PTSA is hosting an 8th grade Celebration on the soccer field from 10:30-2:30. Students will return to their 7th class and dismissal as usual at 2:45. The celebration will include pizza, snow cones, music, bouncy house, kickball, and games. 


Promotion CeremonyTuesday, May 21st, 2024

Eighth grade students participating in promotion should arrive no later than 8:00 a.m. at the middle school entrance and report to the cafeteria to line up alphabetically.  Parents may park in the high school parking lot and proceed to the high school gym. Students arriving by bus should report to the cafeteria by 7:45 am. Promotion activities and awards will begin at 9:00 am at the SMMHS high school gymnasium. After the ceremony, students may be signed out from tables outside the high school gym.This area will have three tables with multiple sign-out sheets. One parent or guardian will sign out their student manually. Once the student is signed out, that student will be allowed to leave campus with said parent.  In the case that a student is not dismissed by parent or guardian, they will return to Mrs. Hardison’s classroom for attendance and then follow the class schedule.

Promotion Dress Code Student attire must comply with school dress code. The dress code for promotion is dressy attire.  

Ladies: Strapless shirts, backless tops, halters, tank tops, see-through material, and low-cut shirts are not appropriate for school. Top apparel must be modest and no cleavage or bare midriff should be revealed. All tops must have a minimum of 3-fingers width on the shoulders and NO undergarments should be visible.Skirts and dresses must be at least mid-thigh length. Students should be able to sit, stand, and walk without revealing underwear above or below the garment. Students may not wear jeans, but may wear dressy slacks and a blouse. 

Gentlemen:  Students should wear dress slacks and collared shirts. Students may wear dress shorts, but they must be appropriate length. No athletic shorts or jeans. Ties are encouraged, but not required. 


If this dress code will be a burden financially to your family please contact me as soon as possible so we can try and assist you.


Students who do not meet dress code and/or are deemed inappropriately dressed by our team will be asked to sit with their parents and not be allowed to participate in promotion ceremonies.
