Hello My Name Is...
Maureen A. Bergren
Welcome to MYP Year 2 Individuals & Societies World History AKA 7th grade Social Studies! This year will be my eighth year at SMMHS, and this is my sixth year teaching 7th grade World History.
I am a graduate of LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA, where I received my B.A. in Social Work and A.A. in Criminal Justice. After working as a police officer for 5 years, I was lucky enough to stay home with our two sons, Kyle and Luke. I embarked on my education career after receiving my Master's of Science in Education from Samford University in Birmingham, AL.
I began teaching in Trussville, Alabama in 2007. After one year of teaching 5th grade, my family moved to South America for 6 years. We spent 6 months in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and the rest of the time in Lima, Perú. In 2014, we moved to Signal Mountain so that our boys could attend SMMHS and continue with the IB programme that they began in South America.
I have personally seen the impact that the IB programme has had on our sons. Both completed the Diploma Programme and graduated with their IB diplomas. I can't wait to continue on the IB journey with my students!
