Families of 8th graders,

We are so excited to have taught your children this school year!  We will be celebrating their promotion to high school on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 9:30 am at the Signal Mountain High School Stadium.  Each student will be issued four tickets for family or friends to be admitted to the stadium to maintain Hamilton County Schools socially distanced protocols.  Students and their parents or guests attending promotion will be required to sit socially distanced and wear a mask. 

HCS@Home 8th Grade HCS at Home Student Promotion Practice Interest

If your student is an HCS at Home student, please respond to the Google Form linked above to indicate if they will be attending promotion in person. If your student is enrolled in HCS at home and would like to participate in person, they are required to attend promotion practice on May 21st, as well as follow all in-person protocol on promotion day, May 24th. In-person protocol includes: arriving at the appropriate time, wearing a mask over the nose and mouth, maintaining social distancing, and other criteria below. 

Promotion Practice: Friday, May  21st

On Friday, the students will come to school as usual and report to 5th block by 7:45 a.m. We will start promotion practice shortly thereafter. Students will be released by their teachers to attend practice. 

Student attire for promotion practice must comply with SMMHS dress code. After practice, we will have a party with individually wrapped snacks for students, also at the stadium. Please click here to access the link to sign up to bring snacks or water.

Students may be dismissed at the end of practice at 10:45 a.m. by his/her parent or guardian, following SMMHS dismissal field trip form procedures at the visitor’s side of the stadium. Students that do not turn in a form to Mrs. Oliver by Thursday, May 20th will not be dismissed from the stadium. Students who remain at school will be assigned to a teacher until 2:45 p.m.

Promotion Ceremony Monday, May 24st 

On Monday, eighth grade students participating in promotion will arrive by 8:30 a.m. and report to the cafeteria.  Parents may park in the high school parking lot and make their way to the stadium to locate seating that will be marked off to indicate social distancing protocol. Handicap parking will be available on the visitor’s side parking lot.

Promotion activities and awards will begin at 9:30 am at the SMMHS high school football stadium. All attendees must follow proper masking and social distancing protocols while on school property. After the ceremony, students may be signed out from tables outside the high school gym. Students may not be dismissed from the stadium. Students who remain at school will follow their schedule for the day. 

Promotion Dress Code The dress code for promotion is dressy attire.  The dress code is as follows: 

Ladies:  Student attire must comply with school dress code. Dresses and skirts must adhere to school dress code length. Students may not wear jeans, but may wear dressy slacks and a blouse. Blouses and dresses should not bare shoulders. Please be aware that you will be walking across grass when making your shoe choices. Flats or wedges are recommended. 

Gentlemen:  Students should wear dress slacks and collared shirts. Students may wear dress shorts, but they must be appropriate length. No athletic shorts or jeans. Ties are encouraged, but not required. 

Students who do not meet dress code and/or are deemed inappropriately dressed by our team will be asked to sit with their parents and not be allowed to participate in promotion ceremonies.
