My Philosophy:
Today's teachers have a challenging task of educating students for a future that is going to look very different than the world we live in today. Today education is a new beast – one where students are out-growing traditional classroom styles faster than most teachers can adapt, one where the overwhelming amount of data available can be harnessed as an invaluable tool for shaping instruction, one where there is a definite need for innovation in order to realize every school and every student’s potential. The  changes brought about by technology are continuing at rapid rates and the careers we are preparing students for may not yet exist.  Because of this, it is important that we prepare students to be able to think on their feet, to be able to problem solve, to collaborate with others and to learn from their mistakes.

Bio

My name is Jamie Brock and I feel blessed to teach in this community. My son, Davis, is a sophmore at Wake Forest and my daughter, Sarah Kate is a freshman at UTK. For the last 9 years I have had the pleasure to provide the middle school gifted services here at SMMHS. Prior to this, most of my experience has been in Special Education and I have a special affinity for teaching study skills and helping students on a one-on-one basis, so I continue to tutor privately after school.

My experiences as the director of Sylvan Learning Center and as a teacher at Scenic Land School have prepared me to help children of all levels be successful and challenged.

When I am not in the classroom or tutoring, you will find me spending time with my precious husband, Dave- and Davis and Sarah Kate. We enjoy the outdoors, eating out, seeing movies, exploring new cities, camping, and just generally being together. When alone, I enjoy PINTEREST, perusing the internet for the latest educational trends, binge-watching Netflix latest series or listening to all types of music. Currently, my hobby is researching college scholarships for my son who will be heading to college next year.

Transfering from the old middle school has instilled within me a sense of appreciation for this school, the faculty, and the facility. I feel lucky to have an opportunity to be a part of each child's story. My goal is to treat each child as an individual and help them find an area to challenge themselves. I am accessible and eager to work with you to see that this is a positive experience for your child.
