Madame Whitson first started teaching French formally in January of 2000 at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville, Tennessee.  She taught 6th-8th grade French and 7th grade Theater at FRA up until January of 2006.  While finishing up her Masters in Teaching French, she taught French 1010 at MTSU during the summer of 2004.  She was the first French and Theater teacher ever at Normal Park Museum Magnet Upper School (2009-2010).  Currently, she teaches 6th-7th grade French at SMMHS.  In the summers, Madame Whitson loves to lead EF (Education First) tours.  In June of 2014, she led a tour to Paris, Normandy, Brittany, and London.

Emily Anne Buie (Madame Whitson) fell in love with the French language and culture while studying French in high school in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  In 1992, she went on her first trip to France, an EF Tour with some members from her French class and her teacher.  After graduating from Lawrence County High in 1994, she started her undergraduate work in French and in Theater at David Lipscomb University.  In 1998, she won the prestigious Gladys Gooch Modern Language Award/Scholarship, which helped to send her to Avignon, France during the summer of 1999.  She spent the summer of 1999 living with a French family in Provence, France and taking classes in French and Theater at the Institute for American Universities in Avignon.

In August of 1999, Madame Whitson, then known as Emily Buie, married her husband, Isaac Whitson, who is a master stonemason.   After six years of teaching French at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville and obtaining her MAT in French from MTSU, she took a few years off teaching to stay at home with their baby girl, Evangelina (Eva), who was born in January of 2006.

In August of 2006, the Whitson family moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Madame Whitson has taught various subjects in several schools in Chattanooga including: Notre Dame, Normal Park, and Hixson High.  Her current home is teaching 6th and 7th grade French at SMMHS.
