Signal Mountain Middle High School Choruses

Signal Mountain Middle and High School has five choirs- Sixth Grade Chorus, Seventh Grade Chorus, Eighth Grade Chorus, Concert Choir (grades 9-12), and Ensemble (9-12). Students perform throughout the year including two culminating concerts at the end of each semester. Congratulations to the Middle School and High School participants in the Tennessee All-East Honor Choir at Clayton Center for the Performing Arts at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. SMMHS had four high school students attend this year’s honor choir!

We are especially proud of all three choirs for making the highest score, Superior, in the sight-singing component of the assessment! Wow!!

UTC Choral Festival

Thank you to UTC for inviting the SMMHS Concert Choir to participate in the UTC Choral Festival. We were honored to share the stage with the choirs of Dade County High School, Heritage High School, and the various ensembles of UTC. The highlight of the evening was singing masterworks by Mozart and Beethoven with the UTC Strings!

The National Beta Club recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, character, and service. Eligible students maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and a positive behavior record. The Signal Mountain High School Leo Club is a school-based service club sponsored by the Signal Mountain Lions. Established in 2014, the SMHS Leo Club has grown to over 200 devoted young people realizing the power of action and embodying the club’s motto of “Leadership, Experience, Opportunity.”

Math League is an online competition that students take six times on designated days on their own time

Mock trial simulates a courtroom trial, offering participants hands-on experience with the legal system. Students take on roles like attorneys and witnesses to present a hypothetical legal case.

Science National Honor Society (SNHS) is a community of students who share a passion for science and are dedicated to academic excellence. Members have opportunities to participate in science-related activities, service projects, guest speakers, and leadership experiences. SNHS is a great way to connect with other science-minded students, make a positive impact in the community, and build experiences that can benefit you in college and beyond.

Student Council is the high school student government organization within our school. Officers are elected by their peers each spring and are in charge of the social and culture-building events throughout the school year. Their commitment begins in August and runs through the end of May.

Students compete in events at the regional, state and national level related to STEM, but this also includes things like architectural design and fashion design. There is cost to register for TSA at the national level ($20) as well as fees for each competition.

TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) is a three-part competition in which students work as a team to write a design essay, solve engineering problems, and complete a design challenge.

Students from across the state come together at the State Capitol, taking the places of our real government officials. High school programming also offers opportunities for participants to serve as Tennessee Supreme Court attorneys and justices, as Executive Branch commissioners and Lobbyists, or as Press Corps members.

Middle and High School participate in NAQT quiz bowl tournaments and practice and learn a wide variety of curricula based questions and answers

Students will participte in competitive climbing meets against other local teams. Meets and practices held at High Point gyms

Students gather to practice creative writing. High School students rotate as leader and students have 5 or 10 minute mini-lesson ad then time to get feedback on their work and to write.

Students who gather and lead one another through devotionals, scripture readings, prayer, small group support and also fun games. It is not necessary to sign up for this club, simply show up at the theater on Wednesdays starting at 7:15.

Swimmers and divers practice with their club team (typically Baylor or McCallie), but swim for Signal MS or HS when we compete against other schools. Once students have joined the team, we have social events as well as swim meets and a swim championship meet at the end of the season. There is a cost for this club that covers t-shirts, swim caps, and all meet fees.

The Middle School Cards and Board Games Club is a place where students can come together and play different types of cards and board games. This would provide entertainment for kids who don’t have access to online games and would be a fun way to make new friends.

Club Description: The SMMHS Middle School Math Club gives students in grades 6–8 a fun, welcoming place to explore mathematics beyond the classroom. Members strengthen their problem-solving skills through logic puzzles, team challenges, enrichment activities, and competition preparation. Students will also have opportunities to represent their school in multiple local, state, and national math competitions while building creativity, perseverance, teamwork, and confidence.

SMMHS Middle School Robotics Team gives students the opportunity to design and program robots using VEX IQ robotics elements while developing skills in problem-solving, engineering, teamwork, and creativity. Students will work together to build and program competition robots, test and refine their designs, and prepare for regional VEX IQ competitions throughout the school year. No prior robotics experience is required, just bring your curiosity and willingness to learn!
